A Bird’s Eye View: The Language of the Lens with Jamal Carryl
Born in Brooklyn and bred in Queens, Jamal Carryl has been surrounded with and captivated by all things technology since day one. Growing up in a family where education, travel, and the arts were of high value (his father is a director at New York University, his mother, a teacher and photo hobbyist, and several of his uncles were engineers), he was encouraged to further his skills and training in both IT and photography.
And it was at NYU that Carryl was able to take his skillset to this next level; in the spring of 2015 he purchased his first DSLR camera, which enabled him to really ground his voice in the language of the still image. This expressive outlet has and continues to give him a space in which to capture his passions, namely: urban architecture, music festivals and performances, the landscape and culture of New York City, and very soon, the rest of the world in the form of travel photography.
